The Ingram Collection

The Ingram Collection renews its collaboration with Cromwell Place with a group showcase of artists shortlisted for the 2023 Ingram Prize. Now in its 8th year, this leading prize for contemporary artists was established by The Ingram Collection to celebrate, support artists beginning their careers.

The Ingram Prize recognises the vital importance of practical support in the early years of an artist’s career, offering opportunities to exhibit, make and sell work, and providing a programme of continuing professional development. Previous winners include Sin Wai Kin, nominated for the 2022 Turner Prize.

All of the shortlisted artists are recent graduates from UK art schools, and this year’s group exhibition is a dynamic and captivating showcase of artistic diversity. Themes range from introspective explorations of the human condition to thought-provoking social commentary. Announcing the shortlist, Jo Baring, Director of The Ingram Collection said “2023’s Ingram Prize is a testament to the vibrant world of contemporary art in the UK, where innovation and creativity converge to shape our future. This year’s collection of talent pushes the boundaries of artistic expression, and we are thrilled to showcase their extraordinary works that challenge, provoke, and inspire.”

The Ingram Collection

The Ingram Collection

The Ingram Collection is one of the largest and most significant publicly accessibly collections of modern British art in the UK. Founded in 2002 by Woking born serial entrepreneur and philanthropist Chris Ingram, The Ingram Collection is available to all through its programme of public loans and exhibitions. The collection spans over 100 years of British art and includes over 600 artworks. More than 400 of these are by some of the most important British artists of the twentieth century, amongst them Edward Burra, Lynn Chadwick, Elisabeth Frink, Barbara Hepworth and Eduardo Paolozzi. The collection's main focus is on the art movements that developed in the early and middle decades of the twentieth century, and there is a particularly strong and in-depth holding of modern British sculpture. The Ingram Collection also holds a growing number of works by young and emerging artists and in 2016 established The Ingram Prize, an annual purchase prize created to celebrate and support the work and early careers of UK art school graduates.
