Drawing Room

A celebrated exhibition and auction of over 300 unique artworks providing an invaluable snapshot of how artists are working with drawing today.

For many, 2020 was the year for drawing and its absorbing immediacy, its accessibility and capacity for processing ideas, thoughts and emotions made it a vital tool for navigating uncertain times. Drawing Biennial 2021 showcases every imaginable technique and represents artists from a range of generations, backgrounds, and heritages. The exhibition culminates in an online auction in its final weeks, with works available to purchase from a starting bid of £300 – an unmissable chance to own works by established greats and discover emerging talent.

Drawing Biennial 2021 not only shines a light on the vibrancy and vitality of drawing today but also helps secure its future for tomorrow. Proceeds will support Drawing Room’s programme and its move to a permanent home in Bermondsey in 2022, where it can continue its exploration of drawing.

About the Hosts

Drawing Room

Drawing Room

Located in southeast London, the world-renowned organisation comprises a gallery presenting inspiring free exhibitions of drawings, by artists of international standing and emerging promise; a unique open access research library and learning space, holding one of the largest collections of titles on contemporary drawing in the world; and a shop stocking selected books, drawing materials and artists’ editions. The dynamic engagement programme makes contemporary drawing relevant and accessible to our local communities, encouraging self-expression through hands on making. Exhibitions, research and engagement strands, together with talks, artist-led projects, special commissions and other events, nurture talent through supporting the production of new work and share the diversity of drawing with an ever-widening audience. Together, this makes Drawing Room the UK & European centre for the exploration, appreciation and expression of the language of drawing.
