New Normal Projects

A solo exhibition by figurative painter Emerson Pullman, who creates portraits that operate on the boundary between realism and abstraction.

"Where do we go from here?" captures everyday moments on an amplified scale-people lounging on sofas, absorbed in their phones, or drifting into their own thoughts and space. These seemingly insignificant "in-between" moments are rendered with a sense of impatience and looseness. Motifs of clocks and hands explore life's fragility and our perception of time, reflecting the artist's personal encounter with the tenuousness of life and the impact that this has had on both the way he sees the world and his sense of the unpredictability and preciousness of life, even in the most mundane situations.

Pullman's paintings capture the paradoxical nature of existence with his frenetic brushstrokes. Each moment is intense, fleeting, and poised on the edge, yet profound beauty and joy reside within this intensity.

The phrase "Where do we go from here?" prompts reflection on what lies ahead amidst uncertain futures. It raises questions about life's challenges, opportunities, and the influence of past experiences on shaping our present and future. This exhibition delves into this fundamental question, exploring the human experience and our journey forward.
